Time, Or Lack Thereof

Time has gone very quickly since my last post - so much so that I feel like I've come up short several days, I have no idea where they could have gotten to because surely it couldn't be April already? We had daylight savings to blame for some confusion - but it also was a lovely reminder that James and I have now been married six months - we became husband and wife the night the clocks switched forward last October. We celebrated the milestone with red wine (both the regular kind and in my case, delicious sparkling), a grazing plate and Harry Potter (IV), cuddled up on the couch under a quilt, enjoying the first cool evening of the season.

Time has been playing on my mind, because I always feel like I would like more of it. More time to create, mostly, but also more time to do nothing, like sleep (oh, how I could sleep for days if I got the chance) and time to sit and simply be quiet. I swap many things for time: money, getting paid projects finished, worry, travel, chores. I wish I had the time to achieve many different things to what I do, or maybe in addition to what I do? When I was asked as a kid what super power I'd like, I think I always wanted the ability to pause time, and I know through my years as a student, and now a small-business operator, I still find myself sometimes pondering how great things would be if I could just squeeze a little more out of each hour.

If I had more time I would hunt for second-hand furniture and refinish it with paint and fabric and sparkly handles and put more character into my home. I would learn to sew and knit like the talented line of women I have come from. I would go for walks with James and Oscar and kick at the autumn leaves that are going to start falling soon. I would spend some time looking for better quality shoes that wouldn't hurt my feet quite as much as the cheap ones I've been wearing for too long. I would read a book, a proper book, for the first time in over a year. I would put ideas I've had about creating DIY-projects on this blog into fruition, I would start designing for the sake of designing, I would remember my love of illustration and perhaps begin to draw again. I would bake a sponge cake like I've always wanted to, and enjoy eating whatever results would come from it. I would paint... something. I would learn to take photos with a DSLR. I would go and pick up my Kozyndan prints that have been waiting at the framing shop for almost four months (and whilst I was at it, finally get the glasses I am well overdue for). Somehow, I think that if I start to achieve these things, I will have worked out a way to slow down time enough to get the level of quality out of my days that I know is possible, if only I could make headway on the "everyday stuff" that manages to capture my attention just a little more successfully.

Time Flies When You're Flat Out

Well, quite a long time without a post! I have been surrounded by cut paper and print-outs for the upcoming Bridal Expo, and haven't had much chance to get on the computer! Quite a nice change actually, and I really am enjoying putting everything together.

Clearly, so is my dog, who found the most comfortable spot amid my supplies and had a little nap yesterday whilst we listened to Sound Relief and the lovely rain.

Hopefully more to write soon!

Sleepy

What a day - Meager/Sann Industries is grinding to a halt tonight as we're both super tired! I'll leave you with this post of a lovely bed to sink into ... although ours is looking pretty damn good even if it's not styled quite as beautifully.

Sleep well!

PS. Emilie Harrison (of the Wedding Style Guide Blog) has created a superb Polyvore of purple pieces "that may give you some hints on how to add this delightful colour to your wedding palette". It's gorgeous, I always love Emilie's posts! Check it out here.

Births, Deaths and the Blood Bank

Check out how freaking beautiful this "AND" is on this sign - it's in View Street in Bendigo. Jury's out on the stencil though, I like the typography of the original sign and it seems a little disrespectful to have sprayed over the top? But nowdays, it's "Birth, Deaths and Marriages", so I guess it makes sense.

I took this photo earlier this afternoon after finishing up with my Dad at the Blood Bank - we both donated blood, me for the first time! The fires got me thinking about how I'd always wanted to do it, but had never followed through. It was a little painful whilst they were trying to find a vein (apparently mine are well hidden!) but overall, not too bad an experience and I got biscuits and cheese after, horray!

I had Bon Iver's "Blood Bank" in my head the entire time. Yep, on purpose.

Another Day, Another Colour to Fall In Love With

Not much to report - we've had a very busy day which has left little time for blogging - I'm currently browsing "favor box decor" on Martha Stewart and trying to keep my eyes open!

I'm working on four different invitation/decoration sets concurrently, which is fun, but very challenging as each has its own palette, font family and pattern suite, and sometimes I find myself wondering if the powder blue favors I'm holding actually go with anything at all (and why on earth aren't I using powder blue? It's so fresh!)

Things that are inspiring me today:
- Pairing colours together that I haven't tried before and the interesting results this sometimes yields.
- Old type favorites, rediscovered one that fits perfectly with my design and it's like falling in love all over again.
- Finally getting the hang of seamless patterns, and a few nifty tricks in Illustrator that make them look, well, nifty.
- James intuitively knowing when to top up my Coke, and how freaking cool our dog is: Oscar received a clean bill of health from the vets AND took his booster shot with a lot more grace than either of his housemates!

Looking forward to posting the results on the website in a few weeks time.

Domino Magazine is no more

To be honest, I had only jumped on the Domino bandwagon in the last twelve months, but what I saw from the blogs I read daily and from images online, I adored, and I can understand why everyone is in such sadness about the magazine folding. I never saw it here in newsagents, but I was an avid reader of the website, and was recently contemplating ordering a subscription.

From Media Week: "Condé Nast made the long-expected decision to close Domino, the publishing company's three-year-old, hip shelter magazine. The March issue will be the last.... The Web site, also will be discontinued."

Just one more reason the recession completely sucks and now I really wish I had looked into that subscription. Unique and well-crafted resources like this really need support.
